You really think that anyone who wants to harm US athletes will be deterred by them not waving the flag?

No, not if you mean a Munich type incident.

But it could deter an incidental encounter. Chants of USA, USA as someone prances around the field draped in a flag with a forefinger aloft might set some fans on their last raw nerve over the edge. As one how has cheered for the Giants at Eagles home games, I know about such things. <g>

The US has done enough swaggering lately to put others on edge. It is foolish to provoke people unnecessarily.

Besides that, I'm just old-school enough to think it's poor sportsmanship.
