Don, you posted this to yourself.

But to answer you...yes some progress was made in Afghanistan. But as you probably know only Kabul is really under the control of the Karzi government. The rest of Afghanistan is ruled by war lords and yes by a resurgent Taliban. Most of Al Qaeda fled to Pakistan, where UBL is and where the Pakis caught another AQ leader. Some AQ were killed...but jl said 2/3 of the leadership was killed. We all know he pulled that number out of his butt. We failed to extinguish Al Qaeda from Afghanistan. And now we play the cat and mouse game with Musharif. Did I mention that this year's poppy crop is a record?

All I'm saying is that if we would have focused on Afghanistan in the manner that many military experts recommended we might have taken out UBL and most of AQ that were there. Instead they were able to escape in large measure.

I'm not taking a thing away from the brave soldiers that fought in Afghanistan or in Iraq. I'm questioning the design and motive of the leadership and the command. Many other people have questioned it as well. Generals and statesmen from both parties. Only rightwing loonies such as yourself agree with Bush when he said no mistakes have been made. McCain said on Meet the Press that Bush made mistakes, and he needs to get those mistakes fixed soon or his presidency is at risk. I couldn't agree with him more. and so do the majority of Americans.
