Nothing with Sharon is implicit, only in your mind.

Sorry, dude, there is nothing complicated about Sharon. He telegraphs his intentions 24/7.

"compliance stopped when Netanyahu came into power"

Admittedly he was difficult, but that's what you get with a democracy.

Hey, don't tell me, tell it to the Palestinians. Democracies are supposed to honor their commitments. The right in Israel and the right in the US are on a new path where past commitments mean nothing.

First there was Peres (introducing Oslo), Netanyahu and Barak ahead of Sharon. Barak in 1999. Barak was less of a hawk and offered more hope of a deal than before with N. It was starting in 2000 that the terror campaign began in earnest.

And that's because Oslo had died an untimely death.

Much had been agreed to in negotiations following Oslo, in 2000 there was meat on the bone for the PA (and not chuck steak either) and Israel (with financial commitments on its part for PA utility infrastructure that appeared to satisfy negotiators, at least for the interim), and as such, the accord's failings did not serve as an excuse to resort to the terror tactics we've seen.

Stop......you're defending the indefensible. Netanyahu refused to honor the Oslo Accord. There was very little meat left on dem bones after the Likud got done with it. And why do you think that was? The settlers!

The settlers were doomed under Oslo. There was no way they would allow Oslo to happen just as they are not willing to allow a withdrawal from Gaza. The settlers are rightwing extremists who are very dangerous to Israel's well being.

The deal provided for arbitration and further negotiations. Nothing was etched in stone, it was a work in progress. Both sides said they would not resort to violence. But suicide bombings became to frequent. Sharon gets elected. He won't be around forever.

It will take more than Sharon's leave to get things back on track. The Israelis will have to start negotiating in good faith and be willing to make concessions.
