Dominick, thanks for the help. Verizon gave me 1039K. I repeated tests with Toast.net and got from 1007K 1015K. Bell technician was at my place on Monday. Installed a new box in the basement and also replaced outside fuse <he called it "carbon"> with a new type of fuse <kind of circuit breaker>. My modem is connected straight to the box, and then single piece of cable goes upstairs to the computer. Most probably I got rid if the noise in the line since during my tests today no packets had to be resent. Now I am waiting for a call from the Bell's office. They will run tests from the office on my line and modem. Sometimes they do help. <G> gm
