Getting Iraq right is not Bush's goal

Rather interesting how the U.S. elections have become so hinged upon the war in Iraq (forget about "global war on terrorism" -- it's looking increasingly irrelevant with each passing day).

What is interesting from a Canadian perspective is that the impending Canadian election may well be determined by the Iraq war as well. As the election draws nearer, Stephen Harper (Conservative opposition leader) finds himself madly flailing around trying to deny that he was all gung-ho about getting Canada in on the action in Iraq last year. However, few people have forgotten the various things that he said at the time. While at a lunch last week, the discussion turned to the election and whether anyone was considering voting for Stephen Harper. There wasn't one person in the room who will vote for him -- and the reason being??? Because he came across as such a lunatic hawk over the Iraq thing last year and nobody feels they can trust him regardless of what he is trying to say now. In effect, Harper's one big chance to become Prime minister of Canada may well have been entirely blown over Iraq.

Interesting.
