Those events were all about one generation ago<g>.

Nanotechnolog -- since it is so new, and quite a number of countries start to take on it about the same time, so the US has NO advantage whatsoever, unlike the computer/internet technology, where the US has started so much earlier than others, thus enjoying the advance.
