DJ Applied Materials CEO Sees Chip Sector Recovery Continuing

19 May 09:41

NEW YORK (Dow Jones)--The recovery in semiconductor manufacturing that helped
Applied Materials Inc. (AMAT) post its biggest quarterly profit in three years
will continue, according to the company's President and Chief Executive Michael
Splinter.

Speaking on CNBC Wednesday, Splinter said the company's growth will be driven
by expanding market share among existing products, acceptance of new products
and "great growth" at the company's service business.

On Tuesday, Applied Materials said it swung to a fiscal second-quarter profit
of $373 million, or 22 cents a share, as revenue rose 82% from the previous
year.

The company makes products for semiconductor makers.

The recovery in demand for Applied Materials products is "broad based" both
geographically and in the range of products demanded, Splinter said.
