The interesting thing about Safire, in my experience, is that he only gets this worked up when Israeli interests, well, better put, Likud interests, are at stake.

Safire got worked up because he recognizes that the major media has gone over the edge in their "get Bush" campaign, John. You will never see this.

He doesn't mention the Times, but the inference is obvious.
