The young man who just plead guilty, the first one to be sentenced over Abu Ghraib, received the maximum penalty, according to the prosecutors, because he violated, not only US law, but the Geneva Conventions, as well as common human decency.
He only took part in one event, peripherally, he wasn't even a prison guard. He was asked in to hold the camera and take photos, and he did place one prisoner onto a stack of prisoners.
For that, one year in prison.
