There's a serious debate here, John, which I'm beginning to discover, thanks to my daughter's work in this area: the mainstreaming issue, the money issue, the broad differences that get thrown together under the category "special ed"; etc. The basic premise of it is whether kids with these difficulties are a general social responsibility, something we shall all fund with our tax dollars; or simply a responsibility of the family. If one takes the second view, this discussion is a waste. I'm of the first view.
