I doubt I missed anything written on the subject. The issue is one of my hobby horses. :)

The material you clipped reinforces my statement that it's about religion, not patriotism.

That's what it's about.

Some commentators on the right have mushed patriotism into it, along with mom and apple pie, but that's demagoguery and mushy thinking. Perhaps what you read came from them.
