We agree on that. Sharon is not going to be around that much longer. He'll do the withdrawal, claim that he started peace and then feel good about his place in history, and use this to try to stop the criminal probes that he will surely face.

As for Arafat, I don't know if he will voluntarily step aside. He needs to protect his financial and political power base. I'm sure he fears that the corruption that is publicly spoken about may come back to bite him if he steps down.

More likely would be Arafat giving his PM real power to negotiate. So far, he has been unwilling to do this.
