I'm all in favor of a hybrid SUV.

Second, Federal child safety laws have made a owing minivan or SUV almost a forgone conclusion - if one has small children (which is why the vehicles are so popular with families).

Well that's ironic as SUVs are known to be less safe than passenger vehicles in general because of the higher center of gravity.

The argument about the contractor is spurious as anyone who's ever built buildings could tell you. A palette of bricks or 15 100lb kegs of tar are seriously different than a bunch of grocery bags. You are just making excuses here for being lazy.

Crew cabs and SUVs are used to transport workers or to protect expensive tools.

Listen as I've said before there are degrees here. A small Subaru SUV is far different than a GIANT ESCALANTE HOG.

Most people who have those giant hogs never carry much more than a brief case or a couple of grocery bags or in an extreme case a few kids a few miles.

You can be reasonable about this, but you don't have to, finding rare exceptions is easy. But your just full of hot air if you think that there aren't a huge amount of spoiled, petulant, hoggish Romans, er... Americans.
