[Orckit & Ascend]

Hi Pat,

<<How does it feel being on the front row???? :) >>

Some of us in the front row are a little slow Pat. Should I assume support of the "Issue II" issue will result in a license? That would be great.

Below is a excerpt of the Comm Week interview of Ascend's Mory Ejabat. Sorry if my posts are dated. I'm still suffering jet lag from my B.C. train trip.

Keep cool in Frisco

Steve

CommWeek: How are you unifying the different products from Ascend and
Cascade ?

Ejabat: We discontinued products that overlapped, including Cascade's
access concentration and Cascade's and Sahara's digital subscriber line
products. On the switching side, we have Cascade's ATM, frame relay and
IP switches. Ascend's TNT and MAX products fill the access concentration
needs and, for remote access, we have Ascend's Pipeline series.

CommWeek: How do products from Sahara Networks that were acquired
by Cascade fit into the overall product line?

Ejabat: Sahara has an ATM access and switching product that acts as an
access device to Cascade's frame relay and ATM switches. Sahara's product
is in beta and will ship shortly.

CommWeek: What is your view of digital subscriber line technology and its
role in Internet access?

Ejabat: DSL will be a viable access technology for high-bandwidth [Internet]
access. We were the first to offer IDSL last year and we will offer SDSL and
ADSL products in the future. The challenge is to get the carriers to quickly
deploy and tariff DSL services.
