I don't expect anything good from Al Qaeda or Sadr. When they behave badly, I am not shocked or even surprised

It's not a matter of surprise. It's a matter of getting a grip on reality. Given that Al Qaeda et. al, have no red lines, they will kill themselves to blow up schoolchildren, surely that should have some some effect on how we instruct our Marines to fight them? Surely we should be thinking rationally about what standards we need to keep, and which ones we cannot afford - literally not afford, not because we are unfeeling or morally decadent but because a standard that is going to cost hundreds or thousands of innocent lives is too expensive a standard to maintain?

Instead we are going into an orgy of useless self-flagellation compounded with political correctness. If this winds up by giving the Geneva protections against questioning to Al Qaeda terrorists who are trying to launch WMD attacks against us and our allies, it will be worth a 1000 trained jihadis to Al Qaeda.
