Hi, Finn. As I've recounted elsewhere on SI, I kicked Oxycontin myself, in August of 2001, and with no help from anyone except my husband, who did all he could, which amounted, basically, to renting a recliner for me to curl up on my back in in a fetal position in (the back pain that had caused morphine and Oxycontin to be prescribed was more bearable when I was in that position), and keep me alive and clean. I stopped taking the drug the day after I realized I had become addicted, a realization that came to me when I found myself taking an orange capsule before the pain returned, just so I could function. I was emaciated by the time the ghastly sickness was over and too weak to walk more than a few yards. But I didn't send my maid out for drugs. I guess I should say that if I'd had a maid, I wouldn't have sent her out for drugs!
Rush was not in fact "fairly neutral" about drugs. When Jerry Garcia died, Limbaugh's heart didn't go out to him -- his reaction was to call him "another dead drug addict." But for himself he wants sympathy? He said, "if people are violating the law by doing drugs, they ought to be accused and they ought to be convicted and they ought to be sent up". He said "I don't buy into the disease part of it." "It's a personal choice," he said.
I agree with him. It was his personal choice to break the law and become a drug addict and a criminal and to solicit his maid to commit criminal acts, too, while he was at it. And when he got caught, he got coddled in a detox center. He had one of those detoxes where they put the addict to sleep for 48 hours and they wake up unaddicted! No weeks of sickness to disgusting to describe for him! I don't see any reason to feel sorry for someone who's a mean, criminal hypocrite.
Not meaning to sound mean myself, but I came here to post something else--the obituary of a friend who died yesterday of breast cancer, and I'm not in a good mood, and when I saw your post on Rush I decided to say what I thought of him instead of posting my feelings about my friend's death. She would have approved of that!
Edit: I forgot: Rush also participated in the destruction of society! At least he thought that's what he considered he was doing, since he said drugs destroyed society and he was doing drugs himself. |
