Where's the line to cross? Who defines under what circumstances The historical tradition is that the winners of a war are off the hook and the losers are tried for war crimes. Posen and Pommern were provinces of the old German empire that are now contained in Poland. Generally speaking, if you were Protestant, you were ethnically German, if you were Catholic, you were ethnically Polish. Today, Poland is 95%+ Catholic.
