I am still very confused and cannot seem to get past the part where he said he lifted a couch.

I thought that is what he had "people" for.

Now your thought about him hurting his pride makes sense. I mean if I was him and had to lift a couch, well, yes....I see what you mean.

Frankly, I think he needs a vacation.
