look at the full equation - not just the side of the spouter.

if what is spouted is 'too' offensive to the recipient, the recipient is prone to either attack the character of the spouter, or appeal to a higher authority: UnAmericanism.

I've got a list that starts with Joseph McCarthy and runs right up to the present, but so what?
