And he needs to state in uncertain terms that the UN is a wayward organization unable to get out its own way. It is beaucracy at its zenith.

LOL Don. You certainly have puffed up the UN into a monster. No candidate is going to state such...not even Bush!

The UN is simply a world forum. It's where nations of the world can gather to work together. Is it perfect? No not hardly. But if you stop to think about it, the UN is fully controlled by the United States. Nothing the UN does can go by the boards without US approval. We have the veto on any and all things.

For the first time in memory the US has allowed a resolution to be passed against what Israel is doing in Gaza. That is truly historic.

What I believe is that if the UN is a failed institution, the blame is our own, as we wield incredible power in the institution and incredible influence in the world. The fact that we could not garner the support of nations in the war on Iraq should have told us something about the message we were delivering to the other nations. This administration made it clear that the UN was inconsequential to the final decision. When confronted with that rhetoric which nation wishes to support us? Not many.

But it could have been different. Witness the way the Bush's dad gathered support. You were probably singing a different tune about the UN then...huh? It's not the instrument...it's the guy playing it that makes the difference. BB King can make a two string ukelele sound good while Bush can't play a chord well even if he had "Lucile"

If you ask me, this administration has failed to do the important diplomatic work at the UN...even though the deck is stacked in favor of the US.
