It sure sounded like you formulated a question based on the premise I proposed.

I was questioning your opinion of the situation, not assuming your definitions even for purpose of argument.

The cutting of the cord is pretty much the only discontinuous event in the process and therefore makes a good point of definition.

The most discontinuous event is conception because before that there is no life separate from the mother to talk about. Other potential points to draw the distinction include implantation (beginning of pregnancy), the time when the woman finds out she is pregnant, first brain waves, first heartbeat, "quickening", the end of the first or second trimesters or some other arbitrarily defined point", birth, first breath, or some arbitrary point after birth. Some have even suggested at the first demonstration of reason (which for some people might mean they are never considered to be human)

Birth is probably the most common point used, and is to my extent the latest point that the law currently considers important. After birth you kill the baby and its legally consider murder. Do you want that law changed?
