"But if a poor guy pushes a rich guy to the brink and puts the rich guy at risk of losing everything, and the rich guy has no way of backing out then the poor guy's lack of "things to lose" won't matter much. When the poor guy comes to kill the rich guy the rich guy's bank account won't prevent him from fighting back."

You're just churning here......trying to defend the Israeli position.

The part you quoted was the central point of my argument. You adressed the side issues without really taking it on.

How can the Palestinians push the Israelis to the brink? Israel is the region's only superpower.......there is no way the Palestinians can push the Israelis literally to the brink.

You continue to miss my point. If the Israelis were losing the proportionate number of lives that the Palestinians are losing, they would be screaming........fat cat, middle class people in democracies don't have a lot of tolerance for pain. Poor people with nothing to lose do.....that's why the Palestinians stick it out even though they are losing 4 times as many lives as the Israelis and their houses are getting demolished on a weekly basis. Palestinians do not have to push Israelis to the brink to get them to cry uncle.

Furthermore, Israel has other things that could threaten her well being. If the US were to cut off aid, Israel would be in an world of hurt. They are living on the same kind of economic premise as US farmers.......we are subsidizing their economy. Its one thing to subsidize a product sector; its another to subsidize an entire economy.

Finally, the longer this jihad continues and the more the Israelis commit atrocities like they did this past week, the more likely other Arabs in the region will take up the Palestinian cause and use Palestinian tactics......an example, the Jordanian soldier who tried to kill 4 Israelis who were returning to Israel or Hezbollah firing at Israel's northern border last week. I expect to see more
incidents like this in the coming year......not from sovereign states but individuals and terrorists.

That will turn up the heat on the Israelis in a way they will not like.
