Sensormatic Integrated Security System To Protect USA Basketball
Teams During Olympic Games

BOCA RATON, Fla.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--July 17, 1996--Sensormatic Electronics
Corporation (NYSE:SRM) and USA Basketball have announced that Sensormatic will provide
sophisticated electronic security equipment, including biometric hand geometry readers, for the
hotel headquarters of the USA Basketball men's and women's Olympic teams during the 1996
Olympic Games in Atlanta.

Sensormatic, the official electronic security sponsor of the 1996 Games, will use much of the same
technology that will help protect athletes and spectators at venues and the Olympic Village. This
includes closed-circuit video surveillance, motion detectors, photo ID badges and hand readers.
Sensormatic will integrate this equipment to create a single high-tech system at the hotel, which will
house the USA Basketball teams during the Games.

Sensormatic closed-circuit video surveillance equipment will be installed throughout the hotel, and
will be integrated with motion detectors in certain areas to make it impossible for someone to enter
the area without being photographed. The cameras will be monitored by USA Basketball.
Security personnel also will be in place in other areas of the facility.

The security plan calls for team members, coaches and support staff to be enrolled in the biometric
system prior to the Games. A three-dimensional template of each person's hand will be created,
stored in a computer and compared to his or her hand by an electronic reader at the entrance.

Security points will be set up at all entrances. Biometric hand readers will be installed at each
entrance, plus walk-through metal detectors and baggage X-ray equipment. Each accredited
person will carry a photo ID, which also will indicate which areas he or she can enter.

"We have a variety of security needs for the men's and women's teams and we feel that
Sensormatic is qualified to meet those needs," said Horace Balmer, vice president of security for
the National Basketball Association, who is working with USA Basketball on its security needs.

Enrollment of the men's and women's teams actually will take place before they arrive in Atlanta
July 18. In that process, the topography of the person's hand is optically measured by a biometric
reader. A digitized template of the hand is created and stored in a computer. Later, when they
enter the facility the person places his or her hand in a reader, which compares it to the template
stored in the computer. If they match, he or she is allowed to enter.
