So there is precisely a need to talk about how bad the Arabs are - so that every Arab who wishes to be a modern person in a modern state (and there are many), can ask himself, why don't we ever see courts-martial of prison guards in our prisons, who we know routinely do much worse than this?

There is NO need to discuss these things when the subject brought up is Abu Ghraib.

Because then you're attempting to change the subject, which looks like you're trying to shift blame.

I mean, if the subject is sexual violence against young women, and you want to start talking about how all the girls wear slutty clothes these days, slutty clothes is a serious topic, but it looks like you're trying to shift blame.
