Is that because he did heroic deeds that you know of ? Or just for participating in an invasion where the participants surrender their moral judgement to to an organization; do as they are told, and make themselves into cogs in a machine ?

My impression is that occupying armies in general do not engage in heroism. Usually they are putting down rebellions , intimidating the occupied people, detaining, torturing, etc....

This impression comes from seeing the behavior of Israelis in occupied Palestine. I can't imagine any heroism on their part.

But if there is heroism done by the US military in Iraq, it certainly is worth reading about. I wish someone with knowledge would write about it.
