Each of us has his or her own particular bias or tendency to believe or to disbelieve. This bias has little or nothing to do with our character. Rather, it is a result of every influence that has impinged on us in or sojourn and there is little or nothing that we can do about it other than try to understand it and to ameliorate it as wisdom and experience dictates or permits.

The problem with most of us is that we fail to understand that we are biased and if we understand it, we fail to admit it to ourselves or to others. In other words, most of the time, most of us find ourselves in the position of the Pharisee who prayed: "God, I thank thee that I am not as others."

My prayer is that God will save me from those who pray "God, I thank thee that I am not as others."
