Just got back from taking the kids to see "Van Helsing" -- which was enjoyable mindless entertainment, although with a few plot twists involving the Catholic Church that were sort of out of the ordinary.

But that's not why I am posting. There was a trailer for a remake of "The Manchurian Candidate" with Meryl Streep playing the Machiavellian mother, the Angela Lansbury role.

Walking back to the car, the kids said the candidate reminded them of Kerry, and I pointed out that he was probably meant to remind them of Bush. Then pointed out that people in this country have an unfortunate habit of giving Presidents whom they like power that they wouldn't want the other party to have.

I told them, "I keep telling them, don't give Bush any power you wouldn't want Hillary to have, but they don't listen to me."
