"When you realize that ethics and morals are all that stands between you and chaos it makes you hold them more dearly."

That's interesting I contend that because society has rejected transcendent ethics we are only starting to spiral into just that: Chaos.

"To be clear, In the context I was referring to, someone is not excluded from a social circle just because they are shunned or despised. I was using "social" to mean those we are acquainted with, even if by reputation only, not just our friends. Even our enemies are part of our social circle because they affect our lives. Those outside the circle are those we don't think about one way or the other."

Ah, but there's the rub; everyone is free to define those who's lives are not significant enough to warrant consideration and no one can say it is either right or wrong.

Don't like abortion: don't have one.

Don't like slavery: don't own one.

Don't like murder: don't kill anyone

You can go with Fascist leaders, or throw yourself on the mercy of a hopefully benevolent Monarch; you can go with 50% plus one democracy or simply have anarchy, but you can't say anything is intrinsically ethical. The problem with those systems is that everyone knows right and wrong when they see it, but only the Theist has an explanation that fits reality.
