India's close relationship with Israel to continue. Neither nation is perfect, but are tied together in the war against terror and in growing their own respective forms of democracy in a dangerous neighborhood of tyranny, corruption, proliferation and jihad.

In a sign of the firm defense ties between Israel and India, two Indian Navy warships will be calling to Haifa Port on Sunday.

The two large ships include the destroyer INS Mysore and the missile frigate INS Godavari. They have a combined crew of over 800 sailors who will enjoy R&R in the port city.

The visit is considered a goodwill gesture. The ships will be docked at the civilian port and not at the Israel Navy base.

Rear-Adm. Sangram Singh Byce, the Chief of Staff Western Naval Command, is leading the naval group. It is the first time Indian warships have visited Israel since March 2000, when a small flotilla called to the port in Eilat.

Their public visit comes three weeks after a US warship, the USS Thorn, held a quiet port visit in Haifa.

While that visit was held with a low profile and its 300-member crew was not allowed to disembark, it was the first by a vessel from the US Sixth Fleet since late 2000. Officials at Haifa's city hall hoped it marked a change in American policy.

The Indian Navy has been a strong client of Israeli-made defense products. These include electronic warfare components and Barak anti-ship missiles
