I believe that bp and vix behave differently depending on whether there is a bear or bull. Bp [and VIX] don't go as low [or high in the case of VIX] in a general uptrend as in a bear trend.

Sort of like temperature in summer as compared to winter. The summer low temperature extremes are warmer than those in winter. :)
