It depends on the reasonableness of what they choose to fight over. If they settle on what would have been a fair negotiated settlement were it possible to negotiate a settlement, then no one cold blame them, IMO. If they overreach that, then there will be plenty of blame fodder.

Israel negotiated in good faith with the assistance of international arbiters accepted by both sides. Israel accepted a reasonable settlement previously. It was rejected at the very last moment by their opponents. Israel has endured years of lethal attacks since. I believe they have a right, indeed an obligation to defend themselves vigorously.

I agree with your premise that the wall and abandoning the settlements will get them out of the rut. I also agree with Israel's current defensive style which is to take the fight to the terrorist leadership, senior staff, as well as the troops wherever and whenever they are found. If PC is important, that is much more acceptable to world opinion than the tactic of slaughtering women and children in marketplaces and on buses as is done by their opponents.

Historically the spoils of war go to the victor. I also would not fault a victorious Israel for keeping land they won in a war.

I agree it is a mess. The continuous pressure on Israel to conform to and/or satisfy ever-changing international pressures creates a can of worms. The Israeli terrorist conflict is a war desperately in need of a resolution. I see no reason not to allow them to slug it out to a conclusion. That too will get them all out the rut.
