The Skype voice quality is good. It's better than long distance calls across analog lines used to be on average, also at least as good as GSM cell phone calls (I don't have experience with CDMA or sat phones). With NetMeeting there were more frequent sound breaks and I had to set up a NAT rule for my router. Roger Wilco requires the least bandwidth but has a poor, sometimes unusable sound quality.

A call to a Skype partner is very easy - it just takes a click on the entry in the buddy list. That's faster and more convenient than dialing a number on a traditional phone. Anybody who has ever used a chat agent is instantly familiar with the Skype interface.

The main limiting factor for my Skype usage is the number of people I know who have a Net flat rate and are familiar with a headset. Telco long distance rates have dropped to 1.5 cent/min so the cost pressure is not high enough for people to try telephony through their PC.
