The administration keeps lying because they know that a significant number of people will not only give them the benefit of the doubt, but rationalize the inconsistencies. The aministration once again staked the reputation of the United States on a lie, and then when exposed they dug in their heels and lied again.
The United States has only so much credibility to spend. It's not just the credibility of Rumsfeld's propaganda machine at stake, it's the whole country's credibility, yours and mine.
