Motti,
You might see this very interesting. I don't think the T1/E1 stadardization will approved the CAP as another standard, but any could happen, this is politic issue to me. For now, Amati is a champion for ADSL standard.

CAP standardization for ADSL ignites passionate debate

Summer got a little hotter last week in Nashua, N.H., where the American
National Standards Institute heard arguments
from asymmetrical digital subscriber line vendors and service providers
about standardizing carrierless amplitude/phase
modulation technology.

Currently, only discreet multitone modulation, invented by modem
manufacturer Amati Communications in 1992, is
standardized for ADSL modems. Many companies want to keep it that way, at
least for now.

Martin Moody, chairman of the ANSI T-1/E-1 committee overseeing the T1.413
ADSL line code and standard
committee, could not predict when a decision will be made on CAP. However,
he believes a final decision will come
later rather than sooner, saying CAP was an issue at past meetings and at
the meeting last week and will probably be
talked about again at the next one.
