I'd say things are looking pretty bad for Bush right now. His approval ratings and polling are indicating that he's going to lose this fall. Kerry keeping it close at this point, even after all that negative advertising by Bush, is not a good thing for Bush. The challenger usually picks up a few points from undecideds and also a Democrat will pick up a few points from those who fky below the polling radar, but will ultimately show up and vote. Which is exactly why he's making these speeches this week about putting Iraq back together properly and why suddenly he's encouraging UN involvment in the new Iraq. He's in over his head in Iraq, and he knows it, and the worst might yet come with the turnover of power. The one thing Bush does have going for him is that the economy is finally picking up. The question is will this economic growth be felt in crucial states like Ohio before the election? Bush is kind of caught between a rock and a hard place at the moment, he needs economic growth and he needs to end the war, which will hurt economic growth.
