I understand the arguements against government dependence. That's not what I'm advocating. My main concern is that our taxdollars are being wasted year after year decaded after decade on things like the military, and that in the end noone really benefits expect for a welthy minority who profit tremendously from these militaristic policies. The cold war is long over, the excuses for lavishing money on the military are becoming more and more convoluted like phantom WMDs. There are transportation and other public works projects in my region that have gone unfunded and unbuilt for decades because the money just isn't there. These are projects that would dramatically improve the lives of ordinary Americans, projects that would creat jobs for Americans, projects that would make this country a better place to live. That is my concern. I don't like to see $200 Billion spent destroying and rebuilding Iraq, when so many domestic priorities are neglected. That's just bad public policy and insane in my opinion. What other country spends money in such an assine way? Ever been to London? They have a first class subway system, that's clean and efficient and even tells when the next train arrives. The U.S. is lacking in a lot respects. If rightwingers don't like government public works (even though they use them also), then perhaps we'd all be better off if we kept the tax money for ourselves, instead of feeding the never ending appetite of the U.S. war machine.
