I can understand how the dove enters the outdoor gardening area, where it probably finds water. I can understand how the semi-tame dove walks into the store thru the wide doors. But how does it forage inside the Home Depot? Could the sense of smell be involved? I imagine that 50 pounds of bird seed puts out a distinctive grain odor, even if it is plastic bagged.

Your starlings down the stovepipe remind me of a decrepit old house I shared with some college kids many years ago. There was some kind of pipe coming down out of the attic near the stove, with a poor fit at the ceiling. Every now and then a Gray Squirrel would come head-first down the outside of the pipe to see what I was cooking for breakfast. It would pause there twitching it's whiskers until I shoo'ed it off with the pancake turner!
