So I take it you are spouting other's stuff and have not read the Geneva Conventions.

John,
They are very elaborate and the legal explanations are more so.
I have looked at the G conventions from the classroom twice at OCS and IOAC and during lectures from JAG throughout my 20 on active duty.
I have also participated in battlefield POW captures. etc etc.
The protections afforded those who qualify are clearly stated. The qualification requirements are just as clearly stated.
Now I don't like what happened at that prison any more than you, but if you want to say they were violations of the Geneva Conventions roll up your sleeves and let's debate the details because I think we would have been within our rights (under the international rules of warfare) to go ahead and shoot most of them with or without trial.
War is harsh and ugly.
I do not believe more than a handful of those prisoners if any met the requirements for protection under the Geneva Convention.

And remember they do not get Miranda rights read to them. They do not get a lawyer appointed if they cannot afford one. etc. This is war not the US judicial system. Combatants not qualified for POW status are not required to be protected from themselves, each other or their opponent (in this case...us) under international law.
