Re: it is not military policy. What's not military policy? There were PLENTY of articles written during and after the Vietnam War alleging that standards for metals had been relaxed. (A not too uncommon practice during unpopular wars: practically ever nation on Earth has done it. Napoleon is one excellent example). So, if that were the case in this particular instance, it would not surprise me. Re: however, in the case kerry who is a public figure has a terrible rumor floating around. THAT'S all you've got to hang your hat on? A 'terrible rumor'? LOL!!!!!!! There are PLENTY of 'terrible rumors' floating around during election years (Bush abortion, murder, fraud, practically anything you can imagine). But do any of these 'terrible rumors' deserve credence? At the moment, I'd have to say that if the basic facts are as alleged, and the military brass was aware of the details the same as we are now --- and they felt a Silver Star was merited... then we should defer to their superior examination of the event, unless their examination is proved faulty.
