I don't think I understood your idea either.

I don't think it was just anglos that made the U.S. successful. Rather it was the fact that the settlers in the U.S. were across an efficient trade route with people that they were comfortable trading with.

Spain/Portugal competed too vigorously to have good trade routes. With too much gold they didn't need to trade in Central America, just exploit. The water was too warm. The south American natural trade routes were with africa, which didn't supply or buy the right good to make trading successful.

In short, North America thrived because of it's proximity to europe across cold water (so the ship weevils didn't eat the ships).
