Philips is to demonstrate its first 13inch polymer LED TV prototype at the Society for Information Display's (SID's) International Symposium in Seattle this week.

The device, which has a 576x324 pixel resolution, is said by the firm to be a step on the road to a 30inch WXGA 1,365x768 pixel display.

"The prototype is to demonstrate the feasibility of manufacturing large-screen polymer OLED displays using multi-nozzle, multi-head inkjet printers," said Philips.

Philips Research developed the printing process. The printer has four print-heads equipped with 256 piezo-driven nozzles. "Each sub-pixel [R, G or B pixel] is built up from multiple droplets fired from different nozzles," said Philips.
