The Democratic strategy is becoming increasingly clear.
The Democrats know this: if the election hinges on Iraq and if Iraq has achieved a degree of stability and legitimacy by November then Bush will win. He will be viewed as a successful leader of a campaign against terror and terror states that has worked as is working. The American public will continue to place their faith and confidence in a continuing war against terror in the competent and successful hands of GWB. The American public will not choose to turn to the John Kerry who came back from his brief tour in Vietnam, already geared emotionally and mentally to launch his campaign for election to the highest office in the land and who used his rhetoric and skills to lambast his fellow soldiers and sailors whom he branded as traitors and torturers, as perpetrators of dastardly acts against the enemy and innocent civilians far more atrocious than anything that might have happened at Abu Ghraib prison. <font size=4> And how is the Democratic campaign progressing?
Iraq is a quagmire. Abu Ghraib is a disgrace. Bush is an Incompetent. Bush is also a liar.
Nancy Pelozi launched the "Bush is an incompetent" phase of the campaign last week in her now infamous diatribe against the President. One might have thought that Nancy was just being Nancy, over the top Nancy, but when the "incompetent" theme was picked up by Hillary Clinton, Senators Biden, Dodd, et.al., then echoed by Wesley Clark, Al Gore, and all of the other also rans, even the most naive among us had to admit that the "incompetent"charge was hatched at the highest levels in the Democratic Machine and then passed down as marching orders to all who had an opportunity to speak, especially when speaking on television and before other media forums attracting large audiences.
This explains why the Democrats are hoping, praying for American failure in Iraq. This is their only hope to continue to portray Bush as "Incompetent". They do not want Iraq to succeed. Then know that success in Iraq means a sure and certain Bush victory in November and therefore a defeat for Democrats. Four more years of Bush is tantamount to a near-fatal illness among the Democrats who will have to live in political purgatory for four more years.
Iraq fails. Bush fails. Iraq becomes a quagmire. This proves Bush to be that "Incompetent" leader that Democrats are determined to make him out to be as their only hope of defeating him in November.
Success in Iraq? Backed by success in Afghanistan, backed by a continuing success against terrorists both at home and abroad? Then Bush is a success. And Bush as a successful president is the one thing preventing the Democrats from once again taking over the seat of government.
And, of course, we all know that the likes of the NY Times, the LA Times, the Washington Post, the liberal newscasters, the radical Hollywood movie makers, all are in perfect alignment on this one potential winning Democratic issue: Bush is Incompetent.
But wouldn't you know it! This is exactly how Bush has prevailed in the past. He has always hoped that his opponents would make the mistake of MISUNDERESTIMATING him. And they are making that mistake again. |
