leave off unimpeded because the word implies perfection and i tend to agree with your words and the effort at least thru the november elections, and the january elections. But if the iraqi people havent stood up by then, i dont feel in terms of american interest that we have to stay there forever as steven implies with less than a 50% chance of success. In WW2 the answer was yes but that war was clear as were our enemies. Here its merry bands of islamic terrorists that come in all shapes and sizes. It isnt that clear to me that a civil war in iraq after our departure would lead to only bad outcomes. I think Kurds survive and sistani led shiaa area as well. For the first you need to keep turkey comfortable and for the latter you have to put up with iran who will support sistani while secretly undercutting him with folks like al sadr. As far as the triangle goes maybe the good guys have a shot in a civil war. What i dont want is a ten year war that ends like vietnam after so many more americans and iraqi civilians have died. I am with you thru january then we need to reevaluate--you too C2. Mike
