Scott, Scott, Scott....

Re: You said we should stop buying oil from the middle east. That will hurt them, whether you think so or not.

Not really very much, they'd just sell it somewhere else (Japan, China, etc.) Of course, if we became more efficient in our use of energy, and developed our own supplies and new technologies... then the world price of oil might drop a little bit (but it's more likely that it would just slow down the rate it's been INCREASING, because it would take a long time to become energy independent like the Apollo Project is calling for)... and by then world oil production would be declining. Still: BEST TO START THE JOB NOW!

Re: I think the leaders that allow the hateful teaching would step it up a bit,

Why? We wouldn't have so much need to muck-around in their affairs.

Re: and you think they would become our friends.

Only if they come to admire Democracy and Religious pluralism....

"If the US supplied 100% of it's own energy"

Re: The demos won't allow that.

Neither will the Republicans. It would take both pulling together like the Apollo Project to get it done.

"the Middle East wouldn't 'starve' at all "

Re: It would take a HUGE hit. If you don't think so you are dumber than I thought.

So, all of a certain you are a BIG SUPPORTER OF WELFARE FOR THE MIDDLE EAST? (If they can't make it in the free markets --- the same as everybody else --- then they will have to reform their economies.)

"1) Our national security would greatly improve."

Re: I disagree, and you have nothing but your "feelings" to base this on.

You are SO FULL OF IT! You think bending over backwards to the oil Kingdoms is a sign of 'strength'. Boy, are YOU and idiot! (You must REALLY LOVE giving it up to the Cartel!)

Re: Again, starve them, and they would be even madder.

Who's "starving them"????????? They have to make their own way in a free market, same as everyone else. If we can successfuly surplant oil in our economy (over MANY years), they will have plenty of time to adjust... and they'd better anyway, because it's going to run out one day.

No need for us to provide them with welfare.

"2) Our trade deficit would decline."

Re: Maybe. Who cares?

Anyone with at least half a brain should care. Oil import costs are one of the biggest components of our structural trade deficit.

Re: Why are you so greedy?

EH? (It's called: PATRIOTISM!)

Re: you don't seem to care about the plight of other nations. Eff 'em, right?

Wrong.

"3) None of our money would be diverted to supporting Middle Eastern fundamentalists anymore."

Re: Bullcrap.

Most of the financing of terrorism, and the fundamentalist Religious Madrassas comes from Middle Eastern oil money.
