>> wonder what the distribution of clouds is by latitude. << To realize the complexity of the models just factor in the two facts a) the earth is a rotating sphere and b) the general year-averaged convection is up-at-equator and down at cca latitudes +-23. Similarly the draft of cold air from both artic and Antarctic. Result - due to Coriolis force - is the standard pattern of trade winds and their colleagues going straight north and south at the equator and then veering more and more into the east and west direction ...
Im quoting that only because I at least think I understand it and then you realize it's just one single tiny fact about a complex system, so complex it can be best understood as an organism, and yes it is an organism, a being that btw goes by the name of Gaia.
Brings me to the point I was trying to make - or better that I was looking for (g) - I am a complex system (as far as I know, and it probably would get worse were I ready to Gnothi sauton / learn more about myself). But, H*l, my friends, I know for sure when I OK and when I am NOT ok.
Same for Gaia. I mean, I dont (mis)use the complexity of the situation as an excuse to say "it needs some more studying". Maybe it's time we talked about the theory and practice of cooperative games in 2004 and later. Because, cooperation, the altruistic (here, I said it) behavior, at least the apparent kind of it, is .... er .... interesting proposition in these times?

Caeterum censeo, Raimundum esse reinstituendum. Same for Jawlot. Our own sinners we ostracize and castigate ourselves. |
