There was no political spin. Read the post again.

Tillman died fighting the people who attacked us on 9/11. He had been a brilliant student, had a bright future, and gave it up to defend people, many of whom can't form an appreciation for it.

My son is in the process of enlisting for precisely the same reasons. His attitude is that if freedom is worth having it is worth fighting for. People like him are what made this country great. People who don't appreciate people like him are what drags it down.
