"Liberals" have become more conservative than Bush conservatives on fiscal matters. ALso in terms of not nation-building for "humanitarian" reasons and not giving the feds too much unchecked power a la The Patriot Act.

So the word liberal doesn't mean much anymore. Let's use centrist or progressive-centrist Democrats because that's all we have in leadership except for a few Dennis Kucinich types.

On the right, we have the industrial neocon Bush loyalists who ally with the religious conservatives and the extreme ultra-right, then we have the traditional conservatives who have grave misgivings about Bush's horrendous fiscal record and foreign policy (or lack thereof) then we have the moderate-conservatives or McCain republicans who would side most often with John Kerry.
