nhaynes, if power surges or drops are fairly frequent, then you might want to consider a UPS. This device not only filters the surge voltage but also provides maybe 10 minutes or so battery power to enable an orderly shutdown. There are several manufacturers. A link to APC apcc.com Gottfried
