Morgan Stanley to extend operations in Russia

RosBusinessConsulting. Tuesday, Jun. 1, 2004, 12:12 PM Moscow Time

Morgan Stanley has announced plans to obtain a Russian banking license and a license of a professional participant of the Russian securities market today, the bank's press service reported. The bank reckons that a Russian license would enable it to more actively deal with Russian shares and government and corporate bonds, and also to perform currency operations and provide loans for companies. At present, the bank provides only investment consulting services and underwriting IPOs in Russia. Morgan Stanley opened its office in Moscow in 1994. The bank makes deals on Russian fixed-income instruments and crude oil and provides risk management services for Russian oil exporters.
