Hawk, the USA would have been able to nuke Japan and Germany into submission so I think Japan was doomed to lose from the beginning [as feared by the Japanese admiral - I forget his name, who feared all they had done was wake a sleeping giant, or some such].

That wasn't known in the desperate days, but the fact that the nuclear bombs were developed when they were sealed the deal.

< unlike many people who seem to think WWII was an inevitable win, it was quite the contrary. It was a desperate struggle, with the tide of the war actually being more a matter of incredible luck and miscalculations on the part of Hitler and Tojo.

Germany also would have been rolled back by nukes, if the USA wished it, and didn't think that having a Europe-wide Germany might be a good idea to oppose Russia, which might not have been fully defeated.

So, I suspect there never was going to be a 1000 year Riech and Nihon Co-Prosperity Sphere. Good riddance.
